Hello everyone,
I hope you’re doing well. The weather was perfect this week, the cherry blossoms are out, there were a couple days of really grumpy skies. Spring is here :)
Not Headlines
After the Fishwives’ unfortunate divorce, one member of the tinned fish couple has made her return, in the form of a cookbook. That it has an anchovy oil martini recipe gives you a good idea of the vibe we’re dealing with here.
The ballerina slipper treatment that shoes other than flats are getting is a trend I very much enjoy. I like it all, from the new trainer at Repetto to the Asics/Nanushka footwear collab to the shoes Chloe Sevigny just modeled for Ecco.
In a move that will ultimately save NYC $20 million / year, the MTA is phasing Metro Cards out completely :(
Forget the inverted yield curve and look around at all the roots: Recession Brunettes (ie women not dying their hair) is the new recession indicator.
Butter yellow is everywhere. Don’t you love it?
Paris Notes
The other afternoon I took the métro to Saint Paul and then walked across the bridge to Saint Germain. I had a couple errands to run, but I was also just eager to stretch my legs and work on developing the map of Paris that exists in my mind by navigating those sneaky little streets I lost on all too easily, even though they look familiar now.
Spring
In honor of the first day of spring this week, I’m sharing what’s been on my mind. My first thought about spring is that it’s the right time to commit to a new project, especially one I’ve been turning over in my mind for a little bit. My second thought then, is if beginning your sommelier studies is something you’ve considered before, springtime should not be when you commit to staying dry for a month. Lately, I’ve been drinking beautiful wines (call me an empirical learner), reading about them in Noble Rot, and letting them into my dreams. Because I live in Paris, this goes in easy tandem with eating beautifully. I love how sensitive to the seasons menus here are: This spring I’m particularly eager for more tender tangy leeks with vinaigrette. Beyond my kind of Ancient Greek existence of indulging and reading, I’m happy my afternoon promenades will soon be less bitter-cold. As a rule, I refuse to wear headphones outside: I prefer forcing myself to tune into the goings-on of the world around me. At home with all the windows open to let that sweet sweet 20 degree breeze swirl around my home and mix with the scent of my basil candle is when I’ll be listening to Banks and MJ Lenderman.
Weekly WRAP
Wearing: My glasses, a lot more than usual.
