Another forever week, but I don’t even mind because I am SO back. Congratulations on making it to the end of this third month of 2024. Pats on the back.
Super sorry it’s a late letter, I had a long day and then a wonderful dinner (more on that later). I’m also sorry for typos. We’re past my bedtime and a measly 30% of this letter was done before the hour of 10pm tonight.
LOVE YA…
🗞️ Five Not-Headlines
Former Utah Momfluencer (future felonfluencer?) Ruby Franke’s handwritten diaries have been released by the county where she stood trial in February. She details her abuse of her children, including starving them, forcing them to work, and an attempt to smother her son. It is deeply troubling, a horrible look into the lives of her sweet children, for whom I can only hope the best.
Japanese-grown “fresh luxury fruit” is now available to be shipped to American consumers directly. Ikigai Fruits, a new online retailer, has begun shipping $120 melons and $89 strawberries to the States. Oh, the gifts God gave to us for free </3…………
If the Andrew Huberman takedown piece evaded you because (a) Grazie Sophia Christie’s (appalling) Cut article came out the next day and flooded your TL or (b) his PR team’s cleanup job has been nothing short of impeccable, please allow me to fill you in. Among the most damning claims: there is no such thing as the Huberman Lab at Stanford, Huberman was dating multiple (at least six) women at the same time, there is no record of the detention center Huberman claims to have stayed in high school.
Also, bonus out of the above article: AG1 is simply not real. The supplement powder, its cure-all efficacy touted by the likes of Huberman and Joe Rogan, is said to be filled with “75 vitamins, minerals, and whole-food sourced nutrients” according to its website. If there truly is that amount of nutrients in each packet, there’s no way each packet contains a substantial enough amount to make an impact. Plus, the probiotics in the supplement powder are “not concentrated enough to colonize,” there’s scarcely enough of any of the nutrients to have any real effect in one’s system.
Trump is hawking Bibles for $59.99, they say “God bless the USA.” Lana’s merch team punching the air right now.
💋 <125 Words: Cold Spring
My little sister departed for Japan last night, perhaps an explanation for all the sushi I’ve been craving and thoroughly enjoying this week (yes, I am jealous). Other than the special meals of this week, I have been walking all around town, appreciating the chilly air while it’s still around.
I plan to do a full discussion of the wonderful Friday night I spent with Eloïse at the opera in next week’s letter, but for now I will tell you that it was a perfectly cold night, Eloïse was dressed perfectly (what’s new), we caught one another up on our Marches, laughed, admired the otherworldly talent onstage and the beautiful opera house (the light fixtures dazzle me each time I see them).
⭐ 3 March Things
Hi! The conclusion of the month means it was time for you to tell me three things you enjoyed throughout March.
My three March things are:
My time with Kira in Hawaii (like two years apart never passed).
Reminding myself that nothing changes if nothing changes.
“Why I Love You.”
🍴Table Notes
A perk of such a late letter is that I get to include some of today’s affairs in my writing.
As I mentioned, I had a family dinner tonight with some longtime neighbors and friends. On my dinner plate tonight was homemade focaccia, asparagus with sauce ravigote, ham, and scalloped potatoes. The evening ended with carrot cake I had a hand in making and a long game of Ticket to Ride (the inferior US version). A perfect end to March, a wonderful evening appreciating time together. <33
🍶 Shōgun
Yesterday I got caught up on Shōgun and emerged from the binge with a lot to say. Of course, the partnership of the “anjin” John Blackthorne and his translator, the lady Mariko catches viewers in an obvious web of tension. But, the fifth episode further fleshes this edginess out in a manner I found striking, revealing more about the worldviews that craft Blackthorne and Mariko, which render the two fundamentally different. The revelation comes about after a series of miscommunications brought on by a language barrier and too much saké. I posted a longer format essay to my blog explaining my thoughts, you can feel free to give it a read here:
